Important Information

Policy Miles

insurethebox offers a miles based annual policy. Your premium is for a set number of Policy Miles in a 12 month period. If you need more miles you can buy Top Up Miles (in bundles of 250, 500, 1,000 and 2,000 miles). You can also earn up to 100 Bonus Miles a month by driving safely. If you have not used all your miles when your Policy is due to be renewed, then any unused Top Up and Bonus Miles will be credited to your overall miles for the next Period of Policy Cover. Any of the original Policy Miles that are unused will not be credited to the next Period of Policy Cover, and there is no financial exchange for any unused miles.

The in-tele-box

When you take out your insurance policy we will fit a small box (in-tele-box) out of sight in your car, at no extra cost to you. It is a condition of your policy that the in-tele-box is fitted to your car, as failure to have the in-tele-box fitted to your car within 14 days of purchasing the policy may result in the cancellation of your policy.

Theft recovery

The in-tele-box comes complete with a theft tracking device to help recover your car should it be stolen.

Accident alert

The in-tele-box can alert us to any strong impact on the car. Our trained claims handlers can then look at the data to see what might have happened. If it seems you might have been in a serious accident or need help, we will try to call you to see if you're OK. If we can’t contact you, then based on the information we have, we may contact the emergency services and ask that they attend. In all circumstances you should notify us of any accidents.

Cancellation terms

You have the right to cancel your private car policy at any time. If you or we cancel your private car insurance policy at any time we will charge you on a proportionate basis on either the period of cover you have received or the miles you have used, whichever amount is the higher. If your policy is cancelled and an in-tele-box has not been fitted to your car, the cancellation fee will be £30. If your policy is cancelled and an in-tele-box has already been fitted to your car, or had been fitted to a car you previously insured with us, the cancellation fee will be £80. These charges will be subject to Insurance Premium Tax where applicable. In the event of cancellation the box will remain in your car but it is permanently disabled by us remotely. If you wish you may request for it to be removed.

Uninsured Loss Protection

Your policy includes cover for legal costs up to £100,000 if you need to claim compensation for injury or reclaim uninsured losses.

Automatic renewal

Your policy will be renewed automatically using the payment details you provided us with when you took out the policy, providing your card provider allows us to do this and you gave us permission to do so when you bought your policy.

Cover options

All our policies offer comprehensive insurance. Not available in Northern Ireland, the Channel Islands, the Isle of Man and the Scottish Islands.
